Octobre in Costa Rica & Panama

So I was lucky enough to spend the better part of October down in Costa Rica and Panama. The first two weeks myself and Dean made Turrialba our base in Costa Rica. This is a paddling destination with a huge range of runs to suit a decent range of abilities.
There is low volume steep creeking and all the way through to MASSIVE volume river running.
Costa Rica is a beautiful country with some very dramatic Geography and more than its fair share of absolutely mind blowing scenery!!!

I have to say the Peralta and down sections on the Reventazon is one of the coolest runs I have ever done. Never ending continuous big volume class III-IV with a bit of Class VI int here two. Absolutely sick!!!

From paddling through house sized boulders surrounded by the steep claustrophobic walls of the Jungle canyon to gorgeous white sand beaches with coconut palms lapping at the waters edge, Costa Rica has it all!!!
The Jungle is something I have to say is just absolutely fascinating. The biodiversity that is contained in that place is just something else. The ants are crazy, the birds are just stunning and the plethora of other creatures contained in this beast is amazing.
I was lucky enough to make it out to the Caribbean Coast with Dean before our work trip started. We stayed in Puerto Viejo and did a little biking mission down as far as you can go to Manzinillo. The coast is gorgeous and the water was so warm!! We skinny dipped before 6 am both mornings which was epic!!
The work trip in CR was phenomenal, we paddled some amazing rivers and saw some awesome progression from all the clients.

Panama was super awesome!! Great group of people with sick mustaches and the paddling was epic!! The food across the board was great even with myself being a Vege...

Here are some pics from my time down there!!

I still have a few more Panama photos to sort through so will chuck them up when I get a moment. Also a bunch of video. Keep your eyes out!!

FOURTY 2 FOURTY out!! 1st Place at Aquabatics Film Fest

My good Kiwi buddy from the home land Aotearoa has put together this awesome video of our summer here in Canada. He is a budding paddler and has been getting out to some of our local creeks and doing some mad walk in missions to get some of this footage!!!!
Last night we had out first Annual Aquabatics Film Competition. There were 7 entries.
Jase cleaned up and took first place and got him self a brand new Dagger Nomad 8.1

Other entries included Mikkel with Yoho which took third and myself with 'do it for the love' which came in 4th. Congratulations to Jeremy Parker who came in second with 'Creeking, an example to avoid'. He took home a brand new Werner Paddle! Jeremy is only in his first season paddling and had made an awesome progression!!

All in all it was an awesome evening. Thanks to everyone who came along to make the night so great!

Here is 'FOURTY 2 FOURTY' from Sinistar Productions

check out Jasons blog

and keep your eyes on his youtube Channel for some sick skating edits from a bunch of our kiwi buddys here in Canada ripping it up!!!

Do it for the love will be up here by next week. Just having a few problems getting it uploaded.

BC Fall Creeking Photo Update, The Yukon, 'do it for the love' coming soon!!!

Apologies for the lack of updates. This has definitely not been because of a lack of paddling sweet runs but more due to my own slackness. However it has been a busy while of work now! The kayak school has had an amazing summer and I have been on a lot of amazing trips both with work and personal!
I made the long trek up to the Stikine a few weeks ago. I left very much undecided in my mind. I had not really seriously considered this run this season until Mikkel mentioned it a week or two before we ended up leaving. It is for sure something I have set myself a goal to do and spent a lot of time thinking about it.
We got to the put in at the highway bridge next to the infamous sign. I could not come to a confident decision to put on so I decided not to and hung out with Lianne driving shuttle.
It almost seemed like all the stars had aligned, awesome crew, low water level (unknown low mind you), great weather and great forecast! I just did not feel mentally prepared for the commitment of this run at the time and I am happy with the decision I made. Def a solid goal for the not to distant future!

A bunch of great trips to BC and one of my favorite runs the Yoho Canyon, which I shamefully left my GoPro in the car for....
All in all it has been an epic summer thus far. The weather here in Alberta and BC has not been very summery but all the same it has been a sick paddling season and with unusual amounts of fall rain we are receiving at the moment two of our local runs are back up and running..sick!! Here is some sweet photos from the past couple of months!!!

Enjoy....
